Block 1: Why Human Rights Matter |
In this section we will examine how thinkers like Rousseau, Locke and Hobbes influenced leaders in the American colonies and France to set the world on the road toward individual freedom.

Block 2: Legal Framework |
In this section, we will examine the codification of Human Rights from the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. Students will pick 2 - 4 of the articles to research their development and implementation in today's world.

Block 3: Changing Conceptions |
In this section, we will look at human rights around the world from 1950 - 2000. At the conclusion of this block, students will create a presentation that focuses on educating a specific audience on the importance of human rights.

Block 4: In the Post-9/11 World |
In this section, we will examine the application of HR ideals in the post-9/11 geopolitical environment. Students will, at the conclusion of this block, compose a position paper the examines whether the US has fulfilled its commitment to Human Rights in constructing foreign and domestic policy in the post-9/11 world.

Block 5: Oppression & Resistance |
In this section, students will create a case in the role of a UN Observer. They will gather evidence on a specific region of the world, report on the status of human rights there, and examine what solutions are being sought by both governmental and non-governmental groups to guarantee human rights to every individual in that region.

Block 6: Educate & Activate |
In this final section, students will devise a plan to meet a human rights challenge in his/her local community.
